Sarah C. Daddetto passed away peacefully in her home on February 10, 2023 at the age of 95 surrounded by her family. Sarah was born on January 24, 1928 in Hoboken, NJ to Maria and Vito, aka Victor Fontana. Her mom said she was so beautiful that she looked like a butterfly, so she was nicknamed Pollum (Italian for butterfly.) She later met the love of her life and married Dominick Daddetto on January 8, 1950. They had three children, and as a mother she was extremely generous, loving and kind. She immediately lit up any room she entered and left a lasting impact on so many people. She loved her family and friends and filled her home with warmth and kindness. Sarah will be greatly missed by her adoring family who loved her with all of their hearts.
Sarah graduated 1941 from AJ Demarest School in Hoboken. She even got her graduation book signed by Frank Sinatra. She played the drums for her school. She made many friends that she still spoke about. Sarah’s first job was working 30 years as a secretary for an insurance agency - that’s loyalty! She never received any benefits, such as a pension, but didn’t mind, because her husband was in the union and had them covered. An opportunity arose where she took a chance & purchased a building, which later became what she called her pension, a building in Hoboken. She decided to take a course & get her auto insurance license, tried the business for herself, where she retired somewhat 15 years later. She was able to run her business in this building, rent out an apartment and store front – first as a record store & later a real estate office.
Sarah loved to spend time with her family, listen to music, especially: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Engelbert Humperdinck to name a few, watch old TV game shows and movies, played cards and whenever possible went to Atlantic City with her husband Dominick, who preceded her in death four years prior. In her prime she was a great dancer and everyone complemented her talent. She loved the Jitterbug and the Peabody.
Sarah is preceded in death by her mother and father (Maria and Vito Fontana), Sister (Rina Giancaspro), Brothers (Joseph and Paul Fontana) and Sister-In-Law (Joan Fontana). Sarah is survived by her beloved children: son Nicholas (Patricia) Daddetto of Secaucus, NJ daughters, Phyllis Colon of Secaucus, NJ and Marilyn (John) Stefano of Maywood, NJ, brother Ignazio Fontana and Sister-In-Laws (Stella Fontana and Helen Fontana), as well as 8 Grand Children (Michele Colon-Guillen, Lauren Miller, Sarah Daddetto, Dominick Daddetto, Nicholas Daddetto, Frank Stefano, Andrea Mollica, Amy Nazario), 10 Great Grand Children (Eva Colon-Guillen, Lila Colon-Guillen, Weston Miller, Amelia Miller, Alexander Nazario, Brooke Nazario, Serafina Nazario, Theadora Mollica, Beau Mollica, Sofia Stefano), in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
