Suzanne Carroll Wood passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on November 26th, 2022 after a nine-month battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was born Suzanne Carroll Morey in Lebanon, Ohio on August 19th, 1937. She grew up on her Grandaddy Hathaway’s farm with three sisters, Marilyn, Ruth & Elaine. Suzanne had a deep love of living on the farm and the wonderful life that went with it. Her father (a doctor) moved the family to Washington state when she was a girl. This cross country move was due to her father’s love of the Puget Sound and all of the fishing and hunting it would provide. The move was also associated with following another doctor friend who had previously moved to Washington for the same reason. The family settled in Burien where her father ran a successful medical practice that Suzanne would help him with while she was still a high school student. Suzanne graduated from Highline High School in 1955, and then went onto a private girls college, Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. During her second year at Stephens, her father died of a sudden heart attack that brought Suzanne and her sister, Marilyn, back to Seattle. She then attended the University of Washington to study nursing. She married Charles James Shierk, and together they had four children. Tom, Kathleen, Charlie & Michael. They lived in Ballard and then moved to Bothell. Her first husband passed away. She would later finish her nursing degree from Everett Community College and work for 40 years in many different departments from labor & delivery, the psyche department and oncology. While nursing her kind and loving disposition touched many lives. Suzanne sent Kathleen and Michael to King’s Garden schools and the family attended Calvary Temple Assembly of God church for many years. This era was considered to be the best of times. Suzanne and Kathleen were lucky enough to travel to Sweden with the church choir and the choir director (Bud Tutmarc), a longtime friend of the family. Bud was sweet enough to make an exception to allow the 5th grader, (Kathleen) to tag along. A trip of a lifetime. Suzanne was a longtime resident of Bothell, Washington. She loved working in her yard, and attending her weekly bible
study. Suzanne was actively involved with her church and sang in the church choir. She was the best cook ever! If you never had her Cheese Hominy, you missed out on one of the most delicious dishes. (The recipe can be provided upon request!) Suzanne loved spending time with her family and friends and she entertained effortlessly!
She would marry her second husband, Wayne Stedman, who was the most wonderful man, until he passed away in February of 1983.
Two highlights of her life were the multiple trips she made to the Holy Land, Israel with her church. She would get emotional just thinking about walking on the same land that Jesus did and how it made the Bible come to life for her.
Upon retirement, she continued her work as a nurse by serving as a caregiver until the ripe age of 79.
She was preceded in death by Merle Morey (father), Elizabeth Morey Walker (mother), CJ Walker (stepfather), Charles Morey Shierk (baby son, age two), Charles James Shierk (first husband), Wayne McFadden Stedman (second husband), Marilyn Sherman (older sister), Ruth Wiseman (younger sister) and Suzanne Wiseman (niece). Suzanne is survived by her children, Tom Trapp, Kathleen Morse, and Michael Shierk, Elaine Baskett and Carol Weed (sisters), Gabriel Goncalves, Samuel Shierk and Jacob Shierk (grandsons), and her beloved, VERY special kitty Dickens.
Memorial service will be held at the Chapel at Cedar Park Church, 16300 112th Ave NE, Bothell, WA 98011 on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Seattle Children’s Hospital in honor of her son, Charles Morey Shierk.
