Selma E. Blyseth Cook went to be with the Lord on August 18. 2011. She had been a resident of Cristwood and Crista since August 2000. She was born in Battle View, North Dakota, on October 4, 1917 of Norwegian immigrants. After attending the State Teacher's College in Minot North Dakota, she taught several years in the area, including a one-room schoolhouse. Selma also attended North Western Bible School in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In 1945, she moved to Seattle and taught three years at Seattle Christian School. In 1951, she married Martin Cook and become the step-mother to four children. They lived in the Northgate area for 45 years and she was a member of Calvary Christian Assembly church. For 25 years, she was employed at the Northgate branch of then Rainier Bank.
Her hobbies included reading, gardening, playing the piano and singing to praise the Lord. She dearly loved all the step-children and their families.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Cook and step-son Melvin Cook and two sisters and one brother.
She is survived by Lorene Erickson of Snohomish, Ruby and Jim Christensen of Palo Alto, California, Stan & Donna Cook of Spokane, step-daughter in law Charlotte Finke of Clackamas, Oregon, 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 13 great, great grandchildren. Also survived by her sister Esther Eide of Northridge, California and several nieces and nephews in North Dakota.
