On April 28, 2021, Pieter Zilinsky was spirited away on the last night of a Super Moon to join his beloved wife Ursula who predeceased him in 2015.Two months shy of his 90th birthday, Pieter peacefully left this world surrounded by loving friends and family Pieter was passionate about language, art, theater, music, travel and nature and encouraged everyone of any age be curious and creative.
What a joy he was to those who knew him - funny, thoughtful, inquisitive, always open for an adventure - a believer in looking for new ways to get things done. Most of all he will be remembered for his intellectual curiosity and devotion to lifelong learning.
After a career as an educator in the Commack, New York schools, Pieter and Ursula retired to Seattle where they embraced the vibrant arts and cultural communities. Washington Poet’s Association, Poets West, the Seattle Art Museum, the Asian Art Museum and The Frye Museum were some of the organizations that benefited from Pieter’s unique blend of intellectual curiosity and engagement.
Pieter is survived by his daughter Margaret and her partner Steve Feldman, of Sarasota, FL and North Hero, VT and daughter-in-law Beth Koppelkam of Denver, CO.
He was predeceased by his wife Ursula and son, Adrian.
Very special thanks to the Skyline at First Hill and Terraces team for their warm and caring support. Pieter’s last nine years in the Skyline community were a perfect ending to a life well lived.
