Joseph Thuong Than passed away on 27 June 2024 in Seattle, surrounded by his family. His spirit is carried on by wife, Mary Than, children, Cynthia, Peter, Thanh (in memoriam), Kathy, Thomas, Richard, and grandchildren, Caitlyn, Tyler, Emma, Cooper, Noah, Mason, Madelyn, Josephine, Grace, Emilia, and Luke.
Born in 1942 in Bac Ninh, Vietnam, the eldest of three brothers he met his sweetheart Mary while enlisted in the Air Force. They married on 15 August 1967 and endured a 57-year marriage anchored in love and respect. Joseph, known to many as “Joe,” was a respected pillar of the Vietnamese community. He was a patriot, loyal to his birth and adopted country. He led an active life and could be found many days tending to his garden and prized Koi Pond. His grass was always the greenest, his blooms the biggest, his veggies the ripest, and his chickens, when he had them, had the best eggs. His love for travel and adventure played out in the globetrotting he did with his wife
He had many titles in his life, the one he loved most was that of being a father and watching his family thrive. He spent many hours sacrificing to ensure we had the best experiences, the most love, and the best role model. Dad gave us the best childhood we could have asked for. From our summer camping trips, to our countless tennis matches, and special trips to Godfathers’ Pizza. He was always actively involved, he showed us how to laugh, and how to love each other. His lessons and laughter will live through us all.
We all love you dearly and miss you more with each passing moment. We will reunite one day, until then, know that we will carry on your legacy. We love you, Dad.
