George grew up in Seattle with his older brother, Robert, and attended Queen Anne High School where he graduated in 1964. During this time in his life, he could be found reading comic books and liked to tinker with toy model cars when he was not in school. While growing up, some of his best friends were Dan Ferrelli, Tim Carroll, and Bob Mackowski. Later in life he became friends with Phil Jones and he became like family. In school, his favorite class was wood shop, where he developed skills such as problem solving, creative thinking/planning, and eye/hand coordination.
Perhaps his love of working with his hands is what gave him the interest to begin his career as an Optician. He worked at Western Optical for 2 decades and then became a small business owner with Arthur’s Red Carpet Dry Cleaners.
Later in life, he enjoyed many things. He spent years traveling the world. He was able to visit 5 of 7 continents. A few favorite trips were to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Egypt, Peru, Thailand, and China. In these countries, he was able to admire many types of ancient ruins such as Chitzen Itza, the Great Pyramids, the Terracotta Army, and the Great Wall of China. He also had an interest in classic cars and architecture throughout his life. When he was not traveling, he could be found enjoying sports. In particular, he was a fan of the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Supersonics, and golf.
In the late 2000’s, retirement called his name. He moved to Pahrump, Nevada where he could enjoy the dry, desert heat.
He is survived by his children, son, Wes (Courtney), daughter Katie (Steve), and grandchildren Connor, Cole, Casey, and Hayden.
