Gary Evan Culver passed away May 29, 2024 in Seattle, WA at the age of 88. He was born on the family farm near Panora, IA. He wanted to escape farm life from an early age so enlisted in the Navy, a little underage, and trained as a sonarman serving on the destroyer USS Renshaw. He was stationed in San Diego and Hawaii, and spent time in Japan, the Philippines and Hong Kong.
After military life Gary seized the opportunity provided by the GI bill, finished his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1963 and practiced law in Seattle for the next 20 plus years. He then founded Bismark Mortgage with his son Douglas in 1991.
Gary was an entrepreneur, a gift he passed on to his boys who also carry on the drive to take on new ventures and projects with his same zeal and ambition. He was so proud of each of the paths they chose and spoke of their successes with so much pride.
He retired from Bismark but continued as a private lender while he and his wife Sara had a home built on a ridge in Seattle. They lived together overlooking Puget Sound, the city, the Olympic Mountains and the ever-changing sky for the last twelve years of his life.
He was preceded in death by this parents Lois and Carroll Culver and his son George and sister Cheryl. He is survived by his wife Sara and sons Douglas (Susan), Frank (Kimberly) and Burt (Noosha), stepson Michael (Alysha), 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Sharon and brother Dennis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
