Eva Stillman Reddick Rogers was born to Leon and Lettie Stillman at Valley City, North Dakota on March 24th, 1923 and went to be with her Lord on November 12, 2021. Eva had a very happy childhood with her four siblings.
She tells it like this: “My parents taught me by example what it was like to be a Christian. I always knew they loved me and would never leave me. So, when I was a little girl my mother asked me if I’d like to belong in God’s family too. I said, ’Yes but how can I do that?’ She said I could pray and ask Him. Mother helped me pray and I asked Jesus Christ to forgive me for the things I did that didn’t please Him. Then I told Christ I wanted to belong to Him and thanked Him for accepting me. What a friend He has been since that day.”
Eva’s family moved to Minnesota where she spent her high school years. Then she returned to North Dakota and received her teaching certificate from Valley City State Teacher’s College. She taught two years and then went with two of her sisters to Seattle where she received her BA Degree from Seattle Pacific University. She taught at Greenwood and Bryant elementary schools in Seattle. Her father said, “If anyone’s going West we’re all going West so we will be together.” So he sold the farm and moved to Washington too.
At SPU Eva met and later married James “Mac” Reddick who became a dentist in Lake City. They had four children together. On a memorial weekend in 1968 Mac passed on a climb up Mt. Rainier, where he was caught in a “white out”. The family found healing through the love of God, family, and friends.
Eva was an active in her church teaching adult Sunday School classes, and serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, and on the Lay Leadership Team at various times. She spent ten years serving as Director of Outreach for the Women’s Fellowship of the Free Methodist Denomination and speaking for Women’s Retreats and other church groups. Seattle Pacific University presented her with the Medallion Award for her service to the school, community, her profession and the church. Eva was also an SPU Fellow and Falconette.
Eva was widowed 21 years when she married a childhood friend from North Dakota, Rev. Donald Rogers. They built their home in Lake Forest Park where they lived until Donald died in 2011
and Eva moved to the Warm Beach Senior Community near Stanwood, WA.
Eva is survived by her four children, Susan (Ray) McMaster, Sharon Reddick (Ned Chilmonik), David (Laura) Reddick, Daniel (Wendy) Reddick and ten grandchildren; Tiffany, Heather, Collin, Nadia, Adam, Katie, Austin, Samantha, Olivia, and Jillian. She has 16 great grandchildren.
Eva’s favorite Bible verse is, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.
She says to those here today, “Meet me in heaven some day!”
