Elvie began her working career in Seattle at Prim Laundry as a feeder and folder. Several years later, she moved on to work for New Richmond Laundry. Eventually, she left the laundry industry to work for Swedish Hospital with their Environmental Services group.
Elvie was known for her cooking. She loved to cook. One of her favorite occasions to cook for was the family barbecue during the annual Seafair Hydroplane races. Years ago, a couple of the yearly outings would be to Lake Sammamish for the 4th of July barbecue and then to Green Lake, later in the day, for the fireworks display. Also, every year she would make plans to take the family to watch the Seafair Torchlight Parade, then a couple months later, the family would go to the Puyallup Fair. Sometimes, she would get the family together for a road trip to attend Mass at the Grotto in Portland, Oregon.
