Elizabeth (Betty) Josephine Herrick Juchau (July 1, 1937–October 28, 2020) was born in Missoula, Montana, to Walter and Ordene Herrick, as the first of four children (James, Jeanie, and Jerry, all surviving). She lived in Montana, Oklahoma, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada before marrying Mont R. Juchau in the LDS Idaho Falls temple in 1960. Their marriage lasted 60 years. She was the mother of five children: Curtis M. Juchau (Marie), Lauri Patterson (Rob), Christopher T. Juchau (Rebecca), Michelle Papritz (Mark), and Nanette Gilchrist (Ivan). Also surviving her are 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Betty graduated from Brigham Young University in 1960 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and taught first graders in Twin Falls, Idaho. She loved teaching children and also taught primary (aged 3-11) children in the LDS Church for most of her married years. She especially enjoyed teaching teenage girls. She was well-known for her excellent teaching ability as well as for her delicious hot rolls and cookies. In addition to many other Church callings, she served four years as Primary Stake President, 10 years as a temple ordinance worker in the Seattle LDS temple, and 18 months as a full-time missionary in South Africa. She made life pleasant for all with whom she associated.
Betty was greatly loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends. She died after very courageously battling lung cancer, a compression fracture of the spine, and a series of other ailments. Because of Covid-19, a service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bothell will be limited to family only (Saturday, Nov. 7th at 10am). Others are welcome to participate through Zoom (link will be posted to Facebook).
