In 1940 Cliff & Mary Cruickshank moved from Kindersley, Saskatchewan to Seattle with their 2 children, Jean & Don. Don graduated from Franklin High in 1951 and then joined the US Air Force where he specialized in meteorology. Following his military service Don started a lifelong career in the hotel/hospitality industry which took him to Arizona, California & Alaska & extended periods in China & Hong Kong but the Seattle area was always his home. In 1984 Don became an American citizen but never forgot his Canadian roots & his large, extended family that still reside in Metro Vancouver BC. Don was a Mercer Island resident for almost 50 years until May 2018 when he and Janet, his wife of almost 19 years, moved to Renton.
Many will remember Don’s love of the water and boating through the San Juan Islands was a favourite, relaxing pastime. Don instilled his work ethic to all those he worked with, was an excellent host & particularly enjoyed scavenging the cupboards and freezers in search of ‘secret’ ingredients for his next BBQ. His sense of humour was next to none and he was a born teaser to anyone within reach!
Don was a kind, considerate thoughtful man, a loving husband to Janet and he will be missed by so many.
Rest in Peace Don
