Burette (Burt) Franklin Tooke, 77 years of age, passed in the early morning of Monday, October 17th, 2016 at Highline Hospital.
Burt was born on March 21, 1939 in Wenatchee, WA to the late Helen Carlene and Jean Vilas Tooke. He had one younger brother, Jean Tooke. In 1957 he graduated from Highline High School in Burien, WA.
Burt had many different accomplishments in his lifetime. Shortly after he graduated in 1957 he joined the Army National Guard. He married his first wife in 1959; he was discharged shortly after with hardship. He was a part of the Cedar River Bowmen Archery Club. Following in his fathers footsteps Burt started volunteering for the fire department in 1955. While continuing to volunteer he went to school for commercial cooking in 1961 and in 1967 for restaurant management. He spent a few years cooking on the Washington Ferry’s.
Burt went through Fire Service Training Program to become a firefighter between 1972 and 1974. When he finished schooling in 1974 he was placed second on the eligibility list to become an active firefighter. He was with the King County Fire District 11, which is now the North Highline Fire District, until he retired in 1995 after 40 years of service.
Burt married Joanne (Jody) Duryea in May of 1959 who passed away from complications of her asthma in 1981. Six children were born from this union. Darrel Tooke, Cheryl Rivera, Cathy Hayes, Burt Tooke, Walt Tooke, and Jackie O’Brien. In February of 1982 Burt married Brenda Weatherhogg who passed away from cancer in 2014. She had brought five children of her own into their marriage. Jon Anderson, Debbie Palmer, Matt Weatherhogg, Mark Weatherhogg and Luke Weatherhogg.
Burt leaves behind his six Children, five Step-Children, twenty-four Grand-Children and twenty-three Great Grand-Children plus many more that he was loved by.
