Betty Gibson had an active and inquisitive mind and embraced life fully. She could make or do anything she set her mind to. She pursued many creative interests that included such diverse talents as oil painting and building furniture. She loved cooking, reading, gardening, camping and fishing with Roger, roasting dough boys over the campfire, traveling, and she always had a jigsaw puzzle going. She was an avid, skilled bridge player and played competitively for many years. She continued playing throughout her life, and had many wonderful friends in the bridge community.
The thing she loved most was spending time with a family she loved, and who adored her.
She was born in 1927 to Welch Thurston Cox and Cordelia Strader Cox in Quanah, Texas, growing up first on a homestead in central New Mexico, then in Roswell where she was an accomplished swimmer on the high school swim team.
She met Roger Gibson, the love of her life at a USO dance in January, 1945 and they were married that June. They lived in Long Beach, California until Roger’s discharge from the Army Air Corps. Roger brought her home to Washington, where they raised their family, living first in Rosalia, then settling in Seattle. She delighted in its lush greenery from the start. She spent many satisfying years as a prominent realtor. Her warm personality made her perfect for this job, and she was voted the agent her peers would most like to have as their own.
Betty died peacefully on April 20 surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger. She is survived by her children Pam (Jim) Murray, John (Amy) Gibson, Barbara (Steve) Pollard, Jennifer (Kevin) White; grandchildren John (Michelle Kondo) Murray, Lisa (Scott Pharr) Chambon, Colin, Molly and Tommy Gibson, Katie (Jeff) Sherrill, Claire (Mike) Jennings, Emily and Alex White; and great-grandchildren Loui and Kate Chambon, Max Pharr, Sasha and Apollo Murray, and Samantha Jennings; and sister Billie Witt.
Her warmth, wisdom, wit, and zest for life will be sorely missed by the many who love her.
