was born April 7, 1962 in Fort Ord, California to Charles Leon and the late Elizabeth (Straughter) Horne.
Mike completed his formal education here on the Monterey Peninsula and attended Noche Buena and
Manzanita Elementary schools, Martin Luther King Junior High School, and graduated from Monterey
High School in 1980 before enlisting in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort
Sill, Oklahoma and was happy and fortunate to then be assigned permanent duty at his birthplace of Fort
Ord, California. The first barracks that Mike lived in are now utilized as student dormitories at California
State University Monterey Bay.
After being discharged from the military, Mike achieved his Bachelors of Science degree from California
State University Fresno. He had a long and successful career as a Financial Analyst and worked for
numerous prestigious companies in northern California. He was also a member of Friendship Baptist
Church in Seaside and was baptized in 1972 along with his sisters Michele and Pamela when he was 10
years old.
Mike will be remembered as an extremely intelligent man with a kind heart and an old soul. Those that
knew him well recall his great love of fishing, old school and early hip hop music, and classic cars. He
kept a large collection of albums and made CDs of his favorite tunes to play in his cars. Mike also spent
countless hours restoring a 1965 Mustang that he owned and could often be seen driving around town in
his Lincoln Continental Mark Viii.
Mike is also fondly remembered as the prankster and practical joker in his family. He was an avid sports
fan and enjoyed watching the Oakland Raiders, but one of his favorite pastimes was hanging out with his
niece and nephew, Elizabeth and Anthony, and attending their football and volleyball games.
He is survived by his father, Charles Leon Horne, 3 sisters, Carolyn Horne Bradford (Richard deceased),
Michele Horne, MD, and Pamela J Cooper (Ernest Eugene), and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins,
and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth and his older brother, Carl Leon Horne.
He will be greatly missed by all.
