Leroy Lee Davis, Jr. was born May 29, 1943 in Longview, Texas, the oldest of five children born to parentsLeroy Lee Davis Sr. and Nelwyn Loretta Davis. Leroy graduated high school in Longview and later in life completed college-level courses at Hartnell College in Salinas, California.
Leroy Davis enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 and served for a total of 15 years. While serving in Vietnam he received the Purple Heart after being shot during a tour there. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1983 while stationed at Ft. Ord, California. Following his military service, he was employed by the United States Postal Service, where he worked for 28 years, and retired in 2011.
Leroy met the love of his life. Anna Margaret Johnson, in 1981 in Seaside California. To that union, Lucinda Anna Marie was born. Leroy accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the New Hope Baptist Church in Seaside, where he was a faithful and active member in good standing over 20 yrs. He served in the Brotherhood, on the Usher Board, and also sang in the Men's Chorus - even as his health declined.
Bro. Davis was very dedicated to community service. He was member of the NAACP, the American Legion.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Retired Men's Social Club as well as the COMO Scholarship Committee. In addition, he was a member of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, State of California, Peninsula Lodge #46 for over 20 years.
Leroy Davis departed this life on January 5, 2021. Preceding him in death are his parents, Leroy Lee Davis Sr. and Nelwyn L. Davis; love of his life, Anna Margarat Johnson; two sisters, Carolyn Jean Davis and Alline Davis Adams; grandson, Albert Johnson; nephew, Clyde Jones.
Left to mourn his passing are daughter, Lucinda Johnson; brothers, Johnny Ural Davis and Kent Dewayne Davis; grandchildren, Domina Sanford, Alonzo Sanford; great grandchildren, Jazzlyn Johnson, Julian Sanford, Amaya Sanford, Alona Sanford, Jizelle Sanford, Devin Sanford, Alonzo Sanford, Yelani Sanford, Goddaughter Rachel Davis and a host of other relatives and friends
