He served in the U.S. Army for over twenty years with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He had assignments in Hawaii, Ft. Devens, Massachusetts, Korea, Germany, Atlanta, Georgia, Vietnam, and Fort Ord, California. He was a captain in the California State Military Reserves.
Alfonso retired as a Municipal Court Clerk for the Monterey County Municipal Court in Monterey, CA - work he did from 1980-November 30, 1995.
He was a longtime member of St. Jude's Parish Council, a Special Minister of the Eucharist at St. Jude's Catholic Parish in Marina, CA and was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus of St. Jude's Council #7155 in Marina, CA.
He and his wife Mercedes were married for 58 and a half years and parents to four children: Almer, Grace (Bruce Lum), Alfonso Jr., and Lawrence.
They have four grandchildren: Angela and Matthew Lum, Antoinette (James Flore) and Rosa Beatrice Brillantes.
