Cooter was born October 12, 1935, to Clarence Logan and Effie Irene Gilmore Davis in the Fruitdale neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. He was raised in Dallas with his siblings and would go on to graduate from Forest Avenue High School (now James Madison) in Oak Cliff in 1952. He went on to Join the US Navy and serve as a Seaman from 1956 to 1960.
While in the Military he married his first wife Pat in 1960 and together they would have a baby girl. That marriage would end a few years later and Cooter would go on to marry Betty Threatt on September 10, 1966, and inherit two sons. Cooter and Betty would spend 37 years before her passing in 2003.
Cooter would get another chance at love when he met Barbara Ann Stephens. He and Barbara would get married on May 27, 2006 and get to spend 18 wonderful years together.
After the military, Cooter began his career as a carpenter by trade. Outside of work and family life, he enjoyed going fishing. However, the love of his life was music, "Pickin' and a Grinnin' " as he would say. Bluegrass, Blues, Country, and Gospel, music was a large part of his life.
Left to cherish in his memory are his wife, Barbara Davis; his children, Pam Davis-Ford and husband Rick, Dennis Threatt and wife Sandy, and Fred Threatt; three step-children; 13 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are his sister, Sue Corley along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends.
Greeting him in Heaven were his parents, Clarence and Effie Davis; the mothers of his children, Patsy Story and Betty Threatt; daughter-in-law, Doretta Jo Threatt; and his brothers, James Logan and Johnny N Davis.
A visitation for Cooter will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home. His funeral service will follow on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM, concluding outside in the cemetery with military honors and a short committal service.
