Born in Dallas, Texas, on January 12, 1947, he was raised in Ferris, Texas. In March of 1969, Melvin married the love of his life, Diane, and together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with two sons, who were a great source of pride and joy for him. He spent the majority of his life in Seagoville, Texas, where he peacefully passed away.
Melvin was a dedicated servant of Christ, having served as a lay pastor for many years at JBC Cowboy Church in Palmer, Texas—a community he dearly loved. He was a man of faith and integrity, leaving behind a legacy rooted in service to others and devotion to his family.
Melvin graduated from Ferris High School in 1965 and shortly after joined the U.S. Army. He served honorably in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. Melvin’s life was filled with a love for sports, both as a participant and coach. He spent countless hours coaching football, baseball, and bowling and was passionate about involving young people in sports. Melvin served as the baseball commissioner in Seagoville for several years and was affectionately known as “Coach” by many of the youth he mentored over the years. His impact on those he coached was profound, with many continuing to greet him with warmth and gratitude.
In addition to his love for sports, Melvin was an avid golfer and domino player, always up for friendly competition. His spirited nature and unwavering faith made him a fighter in life and a champion in his walk with God. Melvin was blessed with many lifelong friends and had the unique gift of never meeting a stranger.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Junior Fowler; his sister, Sylvia Fowler; and his son, Kenneth “Skeeter” Fowler. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Fowler, and his son, Bruce Fowler, and daughter-in-law, Christina Fowler. He is also survived by his brothers, Gary Fowler (Sherry) of Red Oak, and Jerry Fowler (Rita) of Palmer; his daughter-in-law, Amy Fowler of Lindale; and his cherished grandchildren: Koltyn Fowler (Tricia) of Lindale, Austyn Fowler (Tambra) of Lindale, Daltyn Fowler (Lindsey) of Tyler, Kayle Johnson (John) of Grand Saline, Cord Fowler (Corylynn) of Terrell, and Ricky Donaho of Alba. Melvin was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Melvin Wayne Fowler’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and community that will not soon be forgotten.
