James Ronald Long, of Combine, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday March 7, 2022 in Sunnyvale, Texas. He will always be remembered as a loving father, uncle, grandfather and loyal friend to all that knew and loved him. He was born on May 22, 1950 in Levelland, Texas to James Rufus Long and Daisey Mae Long.
James was raised in Levelland, Texas. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. He then went into Law Enforcement working as a police officer in Plainview, Texas and Robbery/Homicide Detective for the Odessa Police Department in Odessa, Texas. After his time as a Police Officer he was an Adult Probation Officer and Deputy Director in Ector County. Lastly before his retirement in 2008, he worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in the Special Contracts Division. While a Police Officer in Plainview, he graduated from Wayland Baptist College in 1976 with a Bachelors Degree in Science.
James was much more than a Veteran or Law Enforcement Officer. He was a great man, husband, father, and friend. He was a tremendous father and a second father to many. He loved all of his children, nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was so proud of his family. James would help anyone that he could, he was kind and generous and a great handy man, he could fix anything. He loved helping others and giving gifts. Above all else, James was a believer in Christ and was a true servant. Whether he was mowing someone’s yard or changing a tire on the side of the road, James was the definition of Man of Honor and Servant-hood; he loved doing for others and never asked for anything in return. James was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Talty, Texas.
James is survived by his wife, Imelda Long of Combine, Texas and his three youngest daughters, Keisha Davis, Keyla Davis and Kheira Long, all of Combine, Texas. He is also survived by his older children: Tammie Rhinehart of Ft. Worth, Texas, Melissa Cruz of San Antonio, Texas, Rhonda Long-Willingham of Paige, Texas, Jeffrey Long of Branson, Missouri, Serina Mansfield of Omaha, Arkansas, and Jonathan Long of Eldorado, Texas. James had numerous nephews and nieces including James Rufus Harris of Azle, Texas. He also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Justin Todd, Paige Pendery, Cody Dowden, Christopher Ruesing, Matthew Long, Landry Long, and Jaxson Long. Great grandkids include Mia Todd, Brooklyn Todd, Everett Pendery, Geronimo Long. His parents James Rufus Long and Daisey Mae Long, wife Ann Long and his sisters Geraldine, Virgie, Jessie, and Shirley preceded him in death.
The visitation will be held from 5 – 7 o’clock p.m. on Monday March 14th at the funeral home. The Funeral Service will be held at 10 o’clock a.m. on Tuesday March 15th at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel in Seagoville, Texas. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
