Charles was born October 21, 1938 in Winnfield, Louisiana to Elbie and Mildred Crooks. Charles was raised in Trout, Louisiana, where he met and married Francile Hutchins on November 22, 1960. Charles joined the Air Force in 1960 and served his country until April of 1964. Charles moved his family from California to Mesquite, Texas where he was a technical writer for Teledyne Geotech for many years. While at Teledyne, Charles completed his Accounting degree at UTA, graduating in 1974. Charles retired from Raytheon (L-3), Greenville in 2000. Charles worked at the State Fair of Texas every October as an auditor for fifty plus years.
Charles and Francile raised three children, Theresa Crooks of Rowlett, Sharon Michelle Kirbie of Crandall, and Wesley Crooks of Combine.
Charles was a man of few words, but when he spoke, you listened. He was very active in his churches, Oates Drive Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon, Gross Road Baptist Church where he continued to serve as a deacon and Lake Pointe, Mesquite, where he was active in his Life Group. He was a very selfless man, always thinking of others before himself. He was a Godly man, who showed his children and grandchildren how to live a Christ-centered life. Charles is described by many who knew him as "one of the kindest men they knew."
Charles is survived by his wife of sixty three years, Francile Crooks of Mesquite, his daughters, Theresa Crooks of Rowlett, Sharon Kirbie and husband Danny of Crandall, and his son Wesley Crooks and wife Lisa of Combine. He is also survived by his grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Danny Kirbie of Plano, James Kirbie and fiancé Kylee Waugh of Crandall, Nathan Kirbie and wife Amy of Josephine, Haley Crooks of Combine, and Hunter Crooks of Combine. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren who made them smile when they walked into a room, Austin, Michael, Leighton, and Marlee Kate.
Charles is also survived by his sister Margaret Jones of Belah, Louisiana, and brother Clyde Crooks of Trout, Louisiana, along with many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
