Albert Wesley Roberts Sr was born at home in Poyner, Tx on September 12, 1927, to Ed and Dora Roberts. He passed away from this world to Heaven on December 1, 2022, at the age of 95 to reunite with his sons Edward Jerald, Allen Wayne, and Albert Jr who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 72 years Betty Jo (Berry) Roberts; his daughter Lynda Gail Williams; his granddaughter Katy Suire and her husband Daniel; granddaughter Connie Giles and her husband Michael; grandson Austin Roberts and granddaughter Lindsey Roberts; great-grandchildren Justin Rawlinson, Brittany Rawlinson, Sarah Kate (Giles) Dorsey, Grace Giles, Catrina Giles, and Cynthia Giles; and four great-great-grandchildren Kyla, Kyleigh, Daniel, and Roger.
As a young man, he enjoyed driving anything with wheels, walking places, and caring for his hunting dogs. He also enjoyed swimming, playing cards, shooting dice, and racing cars.
Albert worked as a woodsman and farmer in his younger years helping his mom and dad on the farm. He also spent time working in fields and orchards in California. He later went on to public jobs, most notably retiring from the streets maintenance department for the City of Dallas. After his retirement, he operated large equipment in the local gravel pits, sold and bartered at the local flea market, and tended his animals and garden.
He married his wife Betty in Rockwall, TX on January 5, 1949, and went on to raise 3 children. He enjoyed working on cars with his sons and riding horses with his daughter. He was extremely proud of his children’s educations and their steady jobs.
He liked traveling with his family. Some of their favorite spots were the Redwoods in California, the Grand Canyon, the Petrified Forest, Hoover Dam, and Las Vegas.
Albert had a strong bond with his family and always took time when they would stop by to sit a spell on the front porch. He spent his last hours speaking of his belief in Jesus, recalling how he had met and married his wife, leaving advice for the younger generations, and letting them know how proud he was of each of them.
Some of his advice to them- There are always some hard times, just handle them the best you can.
A memorial service for Albert will be held Friday, December 9, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home, 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, TX 75159.
