Walter Mervin Steele, aged 101, of Phoenix, AZ passed away July 14, 2021. He was born on December 19,1919 in North Chelmsford, MA to Walter and Edith Mary De La Haye Steele. He had one sister and nephew.
Walter lived in Massachusetts from his birth to 1966 when he moved to Phoenix. Walter served in the Army Air Corp at the end of World War II. He was proud of his service to his country. He outlived 3 wives, Marion, Genevieve (40 years) and Shirley (23 years). He was an active man and you never saw him sitting around as he was into something. He loved working in the yard and that kept him busy as he had no need for weeder eaters, he did the edging with hand clippers until it was perfect. For fun he played tennis, roller skated and played the saxophone. Much to Genevieve’s chagrin on occasion he liked to play the sax and roller skate at the same time. Walter was a true believer and love studying the Bible. He became a licensed minister and served in a couple of churches as an assistant pastor. He enjoyed leading Bible Studies, visiting with people when they were ill and preaching an occasional sermon. He also was actively involved in many mission programs. He never met a stranger and was always sharing his love of Jesus.
He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Pepin (James), Linda Hunt (Brian); his grandchildren, Nicholas (Jessica), Bethany Holtet (Mike), Forrest Hunt, Dustin Hunt, and his great grandchildren, Tegan, Stella, and Axel Holtet.
Funeral arrangements are being made at Green Acres Funeral Home, 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257 There will be a Memorial Service for Walter at The Palazzo 6250 N 19th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85015 In memory of Walter, contributions can be made to a local mission.
