Norma Jane Smith, 100, of Mesa, AZ passed away on June 5, 2022. Jane was born September 11, 1921 in Millen, GA. She was married April 4, 1943 to the late MG John G. Smith Jr. Her son, Guy G. Smith; daughters, Norma J. Smith and Sharon A. Blume; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Jane received a Bachelor’s Degree “with permission to teach the subjects English and Teacher Librarian” from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA. From September 1942 – May 1943, she taught English at Eatonton High School (Eatonton, GA). Then in 1964, she was certified as a Librarian in the state of Arizona and became a Librarian for Lafayette School (Later renamed Larry C. Kennedy School) in the Creighton School District.
Jane enjoyed playing bridge with her teacher friends from school and with her Friendship Village group. She also loved to volunteer at the Arizona State University Art Museum Store, especially at the cash register.
Services in Jane’s honor will be held Fri., June 10, 2022 at Green Acres Mortuary (401 N. Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85257) with a Funeral Service at 1:00 pm, Graveside Service at 2:00 pm and Reception Gathering immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the Special Olympics Arizona (P.O. Box 7580 Phoenix, AZ 85011) or Hospice of the Valley, Mesa, AZ.
