He was born on April 13, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri to parents Gus Chait and Lillie Sucharenko Kutten. He was the oldest of two children. Maurice passed away on December 7, 2022 at the age of 82 surrounded by his loving family at Class Act Assisted Living and Memory Care in Mesa, Arizona. Maurice graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1962 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Maurice left St. Louis after college and held jobs in Maryland, Utah, Kansas, and eventually Arizona.
Maurice met his future wife Jacqueline Keranen in 1967 in Salt Lake City. The two would move to Kansas City and start a family together. Maurice moved his family to Tempe, Arizona in 1974 and took a job with Motorola. Maurice worked diligently, rarely missing work. Maurice had numerous hobbies including flying an airplane, working with electronics, astronomy, and developing his own photographs. Astronomy was also one of his hobbies. Maurice worked on his own cars and enjoyed watching sports on TV. Maurice took up boating as a hobby later in life and enjoyed sailing at Roosevelt Lake in Arizona with his family up until 2002. Maurice adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Maurice was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2017 and slowly declined until his passing on December 7th. Maurice leaves behind his loving brother Fred Chait of St. Louis, Missouri; two sons: Jason Chait (and his wife Ashere Chait) of Fulshear, Texas and Erik Chait of Tempe, Arizona; five grandchildren: Jorian Chait, Kyla Warner, Kylan Chait, Ella Chait, Eli Chait; nieces and nephews: Patricia Pulley, Marilyn Nomis, Kathleen Shuster, Barbara Keranen, Novella Bredeson, David Chait, and Rachel Weatherford.
Maurice was predeceased by his parents Lillie and Gus Chait; wife Jacqueline Chait; sister-in-law Mahin Chait and daughter Kerry Chait. Maurice requested no funeral or services.
