Linda Jean DeVries (DeHoogh) died November 28, 2021, in Scottsdale, AZ. She was born January 8, 1952, in Sioux Falls, SD to Lester and Betty (Hubbeling) DeHoogh. The family moved to Arizona in April 1954. In 1962 she met her husband in a Bible School class at Phoenix Christian Reformed Church. She married Ernest (Ernie) DeVries on February 26, 1972, in that same church. They moved to Flagstaff, AZ in 1980, where their children grew up.
Family was Linda’s primary love and concern, together with her faith in Jesus and participation in his church. Once her children were old enough, she worked as a school bus driver, office clerk, and bank teller. She had a life-long love affair with sewing and fabric, which blossomed into producing quilts. This led her to create her own business finishing quilts for others. Customers often became friends and drop-off and pickup times became an hour-long time of sharing and encouraging each other in their faith.
Linda became an avid camping enthusiast and lover of exploring her Dutch heritage. Family camping with her children led to purchasing an RV and spending lots of time seeing the country with her husband in retirement. In addition, they created lots of memories together by traveling to the Netherlands and France several times, making new friends and discovering places where her family had roots.
The last 7 months of her life were spent living in the home of her daughter Amanda Winn and family under the care of Hospice of the Valley. This time with her grandchildren was especially precious to her. Hospice care enabled her to get out in the RV for trips to newly discovered donut shops, French cafes, the farmers market for Poffertjes, as well as to pursue her passion for trying out new baking recipes.
Linda is survived by her husband, Ernest DeVries, children Michael DeVries, Amanda Winn and Paul Winn, Nicholas DeVries and Taylor (Reisner) DeVries; grandchildren Nathaniel Winn, Ellisa Winn, and Evelin Winn; siblings Lavonne Engbrecht, Douglas DeHoogh, and Ronald DeHoogh.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of the Valley or Phoenix Christian Reformed Church.
