Gary Scott LeVan, age 76, from San Tan Valley departed this life on 5/15/2023. He is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter Linsey (Josh) and brothers Wayne (Anne) and Mark (Elaine) LeVan. He will be very much missed by his numerous nieces and nephews and stepmother Donna LeVan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Von LeVan and his brother George.
Born into an Air Force family in 1946 Gary spent part of his childhood in Japan. He was bilingual at an early age. His family settled in Tempe, Arizona where he attended school and became a talented guitarist. Gary joined the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam from 1967-1968 where he was awarded with a purple heart. In 1981 he married Linda and they made beautiful music together. Gary was a devoted father to Linsey who was his biggest fan and musical soulmate. He worked for the City of Phoenix as a family alcohol counselor and social worker until his retirement in 2005. After retirement he went back to school and earned a BS in Public Administration.
Gary was a voracious reader, talented musician and wrote with the heart of a poet. His passions were his family, traveling with his wife to Washington state during the hot Arizona summers, musical family jam sessions and through the years he enjoyed fostering countless cats from bottle to bereavement. Donations to these charities in Gary’s name would be appreciated in Lieu of flowers. A memorial service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home in Scottsdale, Arizona on May 30 at 10:00 AM.
