Clara Richards Patrick

Clara Richards Patrick, 82, originally from Alabama, passed away in Mesa, AZ on November 12, 2021. She was born on February 24, 1939, to Lee and Ida Richards. She was the youngest of seven children. On March 2, 1963, Clara married Joe Patrick in Alabama and they were married for 34 years before Joe passed in 1997.

Clara worked for the American Cancer Society before becoming a busy mom of three girls. She volunteered as the secretary for a motorcycle club called Two Days in Alabama; an event that Joe organized. She also published a monthly newspaper, Trials Competition, Inc.

She had a lot of different hobbies that kept her occupied throughout the years. Some of her earliest interests were showing dogs and attending rock shows. Later her interest shifted to knitting, crocheting, sewing as well as cooking.

She is best known, within the family, for her famous chocolate pies. Some of her other delicious dishes included pecan pies, egg rolls, homemade rolls, fudge (only her girls enjoyed and will miss), and many more.

Clara was actively involved in her girl’s activities including motorcycle trials and softball games. As her girls began to start their own families, she continued to be involved in her grandchildren’s activities, including motorcycle trials, softball, baseball, golf, and dance.

Clara is survived by her three daughters - Sheryl Vonda Roper, Carolyn Patrick Saum, and Rhonda Patrick Pate, eight grandchildren - Ashley Roper, Bryan and Heather Roper, David Roper, Joshua Roper, Kaitlyn and Alex Niederer, Andrea Saum, McKenna Pate and Ashton Pate, and her newest great-grandchild Wyatt Roper and one sister - Ruth Asher.

A graveside service for Clara will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 11AM at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257.
