Ana L Melendez was born in Puerto Rico on February 5, 1929. Ana was a loving wife and mother. She was a teacher and then went on to complete her Master’s in Social Work. Ana was married around the age of 18 to Galo Melendez. After 16 years of marriage, Ana had her first daughter, Emilia, who sadly passed away at birth. Ana and Galo moved to Virginia and conceived their second daughter, Lourdes. This prompted their move back to Puerto Rico where she gave birth to Lourdes and a year later Mayra was born.
Ana was kind, generous, strong, and resilient. She cherished music, dance, traveling, and most of all her family and friends. She stayed positive no matter what life challenges she was facing, and she would do anything for her daughters. At Christmas, Ana loved to make pastilles and would gather the family for food and music.
Ana was blessed to know her grandchildren, Antonio, Marisol, and Stephen. She was also blessed to have spent time with her family traveling to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, and many cities in the United States.
Ana is survived by her daughters, Lourdes and Mayra; her grandchildren Antonio, Marisol, and Stephen; her siblings, Neiba, Luisa, Wilo, and Luis; as well and many nieces and nephews.
Ana was preceded in death by her spouse, Galo A. Melendez; sisters Lolita and Petra; and son-in-law Shane Childress.
