Dean Lindhorst

Dean Lindhorst, 76, of Gering, died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Heritage Estates in Gering. His memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Gail Madson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mitchell Cemetery at Mitchell. Family and friends by visit from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. Cremation will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. Dean was born September 4, 1931, to John and Luella (Schmidt) Lindhorst in Mitchell, Nebraska, where he also grew up and attended school. He served two years in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and a lifelong member of the Elk’s Club. He retired from the Scottsbluff County Highway Department in 1994, after 40 years of service. Dean loved and adored his wife of 54 years, Margie (Nuss,) they were married June 16, 1954. He also loved and enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He took great pride in working in his yard and garden. He is survived by his wife, Margie; daughter, Debbie Brunner of Gering and special friend, Rod Brown; son, Steve Lindhorst of Biloxi, Mississippi; grandchildren, Jamie Brunner of Gering, Jeremy (Amber) Brunner of Gering, Valorie Lindhorst of Blaine Minnesota and fiancé Adam Peterson, Jeffrey (Martha) Lindhorst of Blaine Minnesota and Jessica Lindhorst of St. Cloud, Minnesota; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Don (Joan) Lindhorst of Gering and Jack (Joann) Lindhorst of Kirkland, Washington; sisters, Janet (Dick) Neale of Concord, California and Janice (George) Roach of Baker City, Oregon; sister-in-law, Joyce Lindhorst of Merrit Island, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; two brothers, Harold Lindhorst, William (Bill) Lindhorst and Dean’s brother, Francis “Fred” Lindhorst of Merrit Island, Florida passed away, July 28, 2008, from a courageous battle with leukemia.
