Richard J. Finnerty of Scituate, entered peacefully into eternal life on November 15, 2021. He was the son of Nancy J. Finnerty and the late Richard F. Finnerty of Scituate. Born in Boston on January 19, 1966, he was raised in Scituate, attending local schools and graduating from Scituate High School.
He attended Champlain College in Vermont before joining the Sheet Metal Workers Local 17 in Boston. He loved being a “tin knocker” and was known as the Gentle Giant by his coworkers, retiring only recently after a career of 30 years. He was very fond of the ocean and enjoyed walking the dog along the beach at the Scituate lighthouse. His greatest pride and joy, however, was his family, particularly his three children, and he took great pleasure in attending his children’s sporting events.
He was a loving and fun uncle to his 11 nieces and nephews who fondly remember his exploits. He had a broad circle of acquaintances to whom he was always a loyal and dependable friend.
He is survived by his sisters, Kerry Hayes and husband Gerard of Hanover, Kathleen May and husband Patrick of Weymouth, and Nancy Hennessey and husband Timothy of Charlton. He is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his children Nicole Finnerty, Matthew Finnerty, Grace Finnerty and his former wife, Deborah Finnerty of Scituate.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 4-8 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, MA. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday November 20, 2021, at 10:00am at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate, MA.
