Jack was the beloved husband for 57 years of Polly (Fitzgerald) Pyne, the dear son of the late E. Wallace and Eleanor (Stankard) Pyne and the devoted father of Kara Williams and her husband, Rich, John Pyne and his wife, Christina, Chris Pyne and his wife, Becky and Shannon Quinn and her husband, Tom. Cherished grandfather of Richie, Jack, Colin and Grace Williams, Brendan, Chris and Liam Pyne, Charlie, Annie, Katie, Jack and Maggie Pyne, Caroline, Colleen, Tommy and Kelly Quinn, brother of Peppy Morley and the late Ted Pyne, Nancy Barry and Ricky Pyne and relative and friend to many.
Jack was born November 21,1941 in Cambridge, MA. He was raised in Belmont, MA, graduated from Boston College High School in 1959 and The College of the Holy Cross in 1963. He was then commissioned in the United States Navy where he served two years on the USS Oriskany CVA-34 in the Pacific Fleet during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home and while attending Bentley University at night, graduating in 1968 with a Certificate in Accounting and working at E. Wallace Pyne and Co. he spent four years in the United States Navy Reserve. In 1969, he became a Certified Public Accountant and received his Masters of Science in Taxation from Bentley University in 1977. He formed John J. Pyne, CPA, PC, in 1985 from which he retired in 2021.
He was a member of the Parish Council at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Churches, a member of the Massachusetts Society of CPA’s, the Board of Directors of the South Shore Family Counseling and Road to Responsibility from 1985 to 2023 where he served as President and Treasurer. Since 1972, he was a member of the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club, serving on the Council for many years and as Commodore in 1988. He was also a longtime Overseer at the South Shore Hospital and a coach and Director of the Scituate Youth Center.
Jack was a modest, uncomplicated man, who took pleasure in the simple routine of his daily life. He loved his profession as a CPA and his clients. Whether Jack was at the gym at 5:00 a.m. or at the post office at the end of the day, he was always happy to greet a friend often with a quick joke or two. He joyfully found time to attend almost every family members’ sporting, academic and special events. His family will miss their special, avid fan, but they are consoled that perhaps his lifelong search for the perfect brownie has finally ended.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 10 Summer Street, Cohasset, MA. Friends and family may visit on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Richardson – Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, MA. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1 Kent Street, Scituate, MA.
