John is survived by at least 7 children and 13 grandchildren, including son John Cronin of Baltimore, MD, and daughters Colleen Cronin of Peterborough, NH, Kathryn Cronin of Anchorage, AK, Anna Cronin of Haverhill, MA, Melinda Pearson of Merrimac, MA, Kelly Cronin of Melrose, MA, and Siobhan Cronin of Merrimac, MA. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Anne Cronin, sister Maureen Cronin, and brother Kevin Cronin.
John was born on September 20, 1950, in Somerville, MA to John and Anne Cronin. He graduated from St. Agnes prior to enlisting in the United States Army. He was proud of his service with the 82nd Airborne Division from 1969 to 1971. During his service, John was deployed to Vietnam for 17 months where he performed honorably as an advisor alongside The Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN). John maintained many close and rowdy friendships with other veterans throughout his life.
Following his service, John worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in Newburyport, MA, where he retired after 20 years. John was continually drawn to nature and the sea. As a commercial fisherman John owned several boats throughout his life, often naming the vessels after his beloved daughters. For over 20 years John steamed out of Newburyport in pursuit of lobster, giant blue fin tuna, and many other local fisheries.
Blessed with a quick wit and the Irish charm, John was known as a lovable rogue to all who encountered him. A proud patriot, hard-working provider, and lover of many women, John will forever be remembered as a man that lived his life on his own terms.
A graveside service is planned for 11:30 AM on Friday, June 7, 2024 at New St. Mary’s Cemetery in Scituate, MA. Fr. Matthew Conley will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John’s life.
