Jimmy leaves behind his wife, Kathleen (Stewart). The son of the late James and Roseanne (Kane) McCarthy, Jimmy was a proud lifelong resident of Scituate. The youngest of 5 children he is survived by his sisters Rosemarie Amendola of Austin Texas, Kate Schmaruk (Rick) of Cumberland RI, Tish (Don) of Abington MA, and his brother Michael of Gettysburg PA.
Jimmy also leaves behind his beloved In-Laws, Patricia and Frank Tees of Clay, NY, W. Michael Stewart and Allison Startzell of Scituate, MA, Jeanne Stewart of Duxbury, MA, Mary Anne and Thomas Gagne of Marshfield, MA, Sheila and Dave Harrold of Amherst, NH, and Michael and Kimberly Stewart of Scituate, MA. Jimmy was also blessed with many amazing nieces and nephews.
Jimmy graduated from Scituate High School in 1984 when he was a member of the football and baseball teams
Jimmy spent 27 years working at ServiceMaster South Shore, starting straight out of high school, and he made many lifelong friends there. He worked his way up from cleaner, to crew chief, to Asst. General Manager.
Then an opportunity arose that he couldn’t say no to as a 911 dispatcher for Scituate Public Safety. He truly found his calling and never called it “work”. Jimmy had an enormous heart and helping others was what he was destined to do. He became instant friends with many of his colleagues.
Jimmy was a laid back, caring person. If you were hanging out with Jimmy you knew you were going to have a lot of laughs, and leave with a lot of memories. He was always happy, but happiest when going out to lunch at various restaurants he saw on Phantom Gourmet, taking leisurely rides around Scituate, and sitting in a rocking chair on anyone’s front porch.
He was pre-deceased by his close friend and brother in law, Terence Pow.
Jimmy fought cancer with an unwavering positive attitude that amazed all around him, and never without a smile on his face. A special thank you to his care team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute South Shore, especially Dr. O’Connor, Liz C, and Robin. Also to the Norwell VNA/ Hospice and his nurse Becky for her compassionate care and understanding.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at St. Mary of the Nativity, 1 Kent St, Scituate, MA on Monday Dec. 2, 2024 at 10:00am.
