Erica Straus (Berkowitz) Kaufman left us on April 27, 2022, surrounded by her loving family after a 6 year battle with a rare cancer (Hemangiopericytoma). This disease did not define who Erica was with her spitfire personality still intact until the day she passed. She often used the mantra “I fight like a girl” and “I came, I saw, I left early” to describe her attitude towards her disease progression.
Erica was born on April 4, 1977, to David and Rita Berkowitz and spent the majority of her life in Norwell, Ma. She graduated from Norwell High School in 1995 and attended Boston University where she graduated with honors earning a degree in Communications in 1999. Erica went onto a success-ful career in Advertising and quickly moved up in the ranks at the top agencies, working on accounts such as Four Seasons Hotels and Panera Bread.
After marrying Scott Kaufman in 2005, they had two beautiful children, Hayden (14) and Ella (13). In the early years of marriage, the Kaufman’s resided in Waltham Ma and in 2008 Scott and Erica moved back to Norwell to raise their growing family. During her later years this is where she dedicated her time and energy. Erica always made sure her children had exactly what they needed and was seen as an advocate in the community. She was one of the parents on the committee when the school was interviewing for teachers due to her attention to detail and respect from the community at large. Many of her peers say she was a non-paid advocate for special needs and had working relationships with the decision makers in the district.
Erica is survived by her Parents David and Rita Berkowitz; her Husband Scott Kaufman and children Hayden and Ella; her sister Deborah Marcinowski and Husband Michael and children Sonia and Eli-jah; and many other family and friends. Including, Jennifer D’Ambra, Kara Tierney, Jennifer Hagey and Aaron Burwick.
