Donald M. Litchfield, Sr. – 86, longtime Scituate resident, formerly of Cohasset passed away of cancer peacefully at home with his family by his side on May 22, 2022. He was the beloved husband of nearly 63 years to Mildred (Sylvester) Litchfield.
Born in Hingham, he was the son of the late William A. Litchfield, Sr. and Verna (Morrison) Litchfield Martini. He was raised in the Beechwood neighborhood and attended Cohasset schools. He was employed at the Welch Company in Scituate Harbor where he met his future wife, Mildred. They made their home in Scituate, where they lived until his passing. He worked at the Fore River Ship Yard in Quincy and enlisted in the Army National Guard. He went on to serve his community with a 32 year career as a Scituate Firefighter.
He was a member of the Satuit Lodge of Freemasons for more than 50 years and was also a member of the Connecting Rods Car Club. He could be seen waving to familiar faces driving the “Scituate 500” in his ’69 Pontiac or GMC pickup. His trips included a regular visit to the Scituate Lighthouse, 3 o’clock Dunkin get-togethers, impromptu pit stops to catch up with friends and swinging by the firehouse to check on the boys.
He was the devoted father of Donald M. Litchfield, Jr. and his wife Tricia of Scituate. He was the proud Papa of his most precious granddaughter Laney, who was truly the light of his life.

Dear brother in law of the late Fred L. Sylvester, Jr. and his wife Christine and Robert M. Sylvester, Sr. and his wife Lillian.
He is also survived by his nephew James Sylvester and his wife Caryn and their son David; nephew Jimmy Cippulo, Jr. and his wife Brenda and their sons Kyle and Jake.
A visitation will take place Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 3-7 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. Funeral home service Friday, May 27, 2022 at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment Union Cemetery.
His family also wishes to specially acknowledge his devoted niece Caryn and nurse Kristen for their many kindnesses and help during a most difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Park Drive, Rockland, MA 02370 in appreciation of the exceptional care he received in his final days.
