With sad hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Joseph Louis Aurichio (86) of Scarsdale, NY; husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Joseph passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and caregivers.
Joseph was born December 1, 1931 in Manhattan to Louis J. and Mary Aurichio, the youngest of two children. He grew up in the Bronx where he attended Cardinal Hayes High School and later Fordham University. Joseph was on the New York City championship softball team for the Daily Mirror Parks Tournament and, in basketball, was a starting forward at both Cardinal Hayes and Fordham. He met his beloved wife of 62 years, Anna (Jakominich), on field 13 at Orchard Beach shortly before serving in the Army during the Korean war. He attended Columbia U. Graduate School of Business, and went on to fulfill his dream of becoming a successful business executive, serving as President of Dyson-Kissner-Moran Corporation, an international holding company headquartered in New York. In addition to monetary gifts to many individuals, Joseph gave generously to many boards and philanthropic organizations including the National Association of Retarded Children, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camps and Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
Joseph is survived by his sister Phyllis and husband Nick Puglia; children, Andrea and husband Peter, Karin, Denise, Louis and wife Kim, Janine and Olga; his grandchildren Kevin, Kelley, John, Maya, Isabel, Jennifer, Michael and Alexandra; loving caregivers; and dog “Duke.” He was predeceased by his wife, Anna, and son, Joseph Jr.
Joseph was devoted to his family and friends. He loved to laugh and to throw a good party; dancing to “YMCA” and the Macarena. His big, hearty laugh would fill a room. He traveled the world with his wife, family and dear friends. Joe was an avid basketball fan, formidable tennis player and enthusiastic paddle tennis player, partaking in sports until just a few months before his death. Joseph loved nature and animals and he never missed the chance to watch the sunset.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 10th at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Church in Hartsdale, NY; followed by a procession to Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. The family respectfully requests no flowers.
