Elaine was born on August 21, 1943 in New York, NY to Lester and Margaret Gelinas. She graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1965 and began a lifelong career as a Registered Nurse specializing in Geriatrics. She graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1991. Married to John O’Regan, they raised two sons, Charles and Christopher.
Beyond her passion for Nursing, Elaine loved to travel and embarked on adventures across the globe with her sisters, family and friends. Above all, her dominating devotion in life was to her family: caring mother, supportive mother-in-law and fiercely proud grandmother. She was known as a no nonsense person, strong willed, yet compassionate and kind, and will always be remembered for her sense of humor and infectious laugh.
Elaine is survived by her two children, Charles H. O’Regan of Hartsdale, NY and Christopher E. O’Regan (and Amy) of Glen Cove, NY. She has two grandchildren, Evan and Owen. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Dalva.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents Lester Gelinas and Margaret (McCabe) Gelinas, her brother Peter Gelinas and sister Kathleen (Gelinas) Polk.
There will be a Funeral Mass, officiated by (Rev.) Daniel G. O’Hare, S.J., Ph.D, at The Church of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Scarsdale, NY on Thursday December 30th at 10:00am. Elaine will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery following mass. Given the current state of COVID, the family has decided not to have a wake.
