Bonnie Jo Cheron, 77 years old, of Kent, CT, went to be with our Lord and Savior after a valiant battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. She was born and raised in Yonkers, NY, and spent most of her life as a teacher, coach, and mentor to elementary and high school students. Bonnie Jo graduated from Western Kentucky State University where she was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi. Bonnie Jo taught physical education, health, and early childhood development at New Milford High School for over 30 years. In addition to being an award-winning coach of gymnastics and track and field, she ran a preschool program for the New Milford community. She touched the lives of thousands of students, whom she continued to cross paths with all throughout her life. In addition to her school career, Bonnie Jo served as the President of the Kent Lions, and was an avid equestrian, cyclist, skier, and hiker. She raised and trained many equine companions, including the award-winning Teddy and Spencer.
Bonnie Jo is survived by her beloved daughters Kacy and Nickole, grandchildren Samantha and Alexander, sister-in-law Helen, nephews Dan, David and Dean, nieces Teresa and Diane, and thousands of students she taught at New Milford High School during her 30 years there.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated for Bonnie Jo at 10am on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Annunciation Church, 470 Westchester Ave, Tuckahoe, NY, 10707, followed by her burial at St. Josephs Cemetery, 209 Truman Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10703.
