Born and raised in Savannah, GA. He resided in Bryan County the past 16 years at his and Gail’s little piece of Heaven. “Flash” never met a stranger and always had a smile and song for everyone. He loved fishing, singing and family. He loved his country and the Lord.
He served his country and was a Vietnam Veteran. He also served on the Savannah Police Department in the I.D. Unit for 13 years after which he ran several body shops in the Savannah area after going into the insurance appraisal business. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University in criminology.
He was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he was a long time member of the choir. He was also a member of the Fred Blackburn Sunday School Class.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Gail Gordon (they would have celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary on June 14th); two daughters, Beverly S. Shreve and Dana M. Gordon; son, Michael (Skocz) Gordon; four grandchildren, Kyle A. Grinde (Amanda), Brittany N. Grinde, Jesse Gordon and Jordan Gordon and one great-granddaughter, Karolina Grinde. His loving mother-in-law, Lona Stewart, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Stewart of Reidsville, GA. brother-in-law, Wayne Stewart.
He leaves behind his brothers, Lee Gordon and Richard Hampton of Savannah; sisters, Patricia Bland of Glennville, GA; Jan (Hugh) Gilmore, Jackie Callaway of Griffin, GA and Audrey Robins along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his bothers, Thomas Hampton (Marty), Bobbie Hampton, Jack Hampton and Raymond Gordon and his parents, W. Jesse Gordon, Sr. and Audrey Gordon.
The family would like to thank Don Tomberlin, Sr. for all his love and support and his nurse Rachel with Compassion Care and his pastor, Dr. Allan Bosson.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel in Savannah.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with
Dr. Allan Bosson officiating.
Burial will be at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park in Savannah with military honors.
