He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ora Lee Howard Davis and a son, Wayne Davis.
Robert was born and raised here in Savannah and attended local schools. He was retired from Smith Brothers Grocery Store. He was manager of the produce department at the time of his retirement with 35 years of service.
He was a charter member of the former Robert McIntire United Methodist church on Bull and 54th St. Robert was of small statue, so he was delegated by his fellow workers to climb up inside the steeple and attach it to the roof of the church and mount the cross on top of the steeple.
He was a volunteer in the US Coast Guard Reserves during WWll.
He was very much an outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, fish and he was born with a green thumb because everything he touched, grew.
Robert loved Gospel Music, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by two sons; Eli Davis of Savannah, Jimmy W. Davis (Janice) of Rincon; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a former daughter in law, Vickie, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4 – 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Funeral Services: 12:00 Noon Wednesday, in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with Dr. Grover Bell, officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
