Jewel Jean Hall Colquitt, age 78, a beautiful, elegant, and classy lady, passed on Sept. 28, exactly 47 years after her darling husband, and after a lifetime of giving love. In the early 60’s, with her husband Al, Jewel was a leader in local efforts to register women voters. She was a tireless caregiver, helping all of her family members as they needed her over the years. She served for many years as a legal secretary and stenographer in Savannah area court systems. Her passion for music and singing was shared in the choir of The CrossRoad Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member.
She joins in glory her beloved parents, Mildred Davis Hall and Robert Hall, her sons Michael and Wayne, her brother Johnny, her favorite brother Robert, and her cherished sisters Vera, Katie, Marilyn, Mildred, and Opie Rita (Mary), and she was welcomed by her husband Alfred, her son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Denise Bevill, and her darling grandson Evan. She is survived by her sister Roberta Stall, her precious baby girl and tireless caregiver Kirsten Colquitt, and three sons, Neyle Frank, Thomas Craig, and Alfred Holt Colquitt, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Regrettably, her holiday pound cake recipe remains a secret, but the book will be written.
Visitation will be held at Fairhaven Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Dr. Savannah, from 2 PM – 4 PM Sunday Oct. 4, followed by a reception from 4 PM – 6 PM at The CrossRoad Baptist Church, 8510 Middleground Rd. The funeral service will be held at The CrossRoad Baptist Church at 10 AM Monday, Oct. 5. Interment will be at 2 PM, Monday at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort SC.
