WILSON, Winston, Earl, Oliver (pooh bear) – With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Winston, surrounded by family at the Sault Area Hospital on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at the tender age of 80.
Son of the late George and Gertrude Wilson, brother of the late Geraldine (Major), late Donny, and Billy, George and Butch. Loving husband and best friend of Patti. Loved and adored father of Sherry Hall (Robbie), Dave (Julie), Winnie (Vicki), Cindy MacDonald (Dean). Adored Papa of nine grandchildren, Brandi, Kristy, Jaime, Matthew, DJ, Jessie, Jordan, Kayley and Rylee and many great grandchildren. Winston also had extended family members through marriage of Karl (Elaina), Eddie (Cindy) and Elizabeth (Doug).
Winston worked as an auto mechanic for over 20 years and it was during this time that he began racing cars at the local race tracks. His skills for racing cars far outweighed his skills for operating a snow machine, possible because of the absence of no roll-cage or seatbelt. He later became owner/operator of Soo Towing, serving people of Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area for many years. After a brief retirement, his love for driving brought him back to work for Bickles where he did local and long hauls. He later downsized his driving vehicle and began driving for UCab, where he transported children to and from school and drove nurses back and forth to much needed areas outside of Sault Ste. Marie.
Outside of work he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and loved to gather and throw a few rounds of darts with friends. He also loved to go camping and spend quality time with family and friends around a camp fire having a few drinks and laughs.
Winston (pooh bear) will be greatly missed by many close family and friends.
No funeral service to take place. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East, 705-759-2522).
Memorial contributions to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (payable by cheque or online) would be greatly appreciated by the family. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Wilson family.
