Beloved husband of Helen and loving father to Alison (Trevor Harding) and Valerie (Peter von Althen). He was a special Grandpa to Max von Atlhen. Don was loved by a large circle of friends. He will be remembered for his charming personality, remarkable sense of humour and loyalty to the people he cared for. He was a kind and considerate man who made meaningful connections with people throughout his lifetime.
Don was an outstanding member of his community with a long history of involvement in a variety of organizations that were close to his heart. He was a member of Kiwanis, the Bon Soo Winter Carnival and Christmas Cheer. He was always willing to help make a difference. Don loved his family and spending time with friends.
We would love to invite his many friends to help us remember and celebrate his life later into the summer when we can hold a special event not limited by the lockdown restrictions brought on by Covid19.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the SSM Humane Society would be greatly appreciated as Don held a very close place in his heart to the pets that he had throughout his lifetime.
A special thank you must be extended to the wonderful staff at the Finnish Resthome. Through very difficult times, their care and consideration to Don and his family was beyond what anyone could have expected. Their patience, kind words and remarkably humanity made a very challenging time manageable. We do not have the words to express our thanks.
