Wayne grew up on the family farm, helped with the many chores that a mixed farm had, from milking cows to slopping pigs to seeding and harvesting the grain. He continued to help on the farm after he graduated from the Kyle Composite High School and eventually came to own it after Dad retired.
He attended Kelsey Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences and obtained his Heavy Duty Mechanics Journeyman’s ticket and after a few years, went to the University of Saskatchewan and obtained his Vocational Agriculture Degree. He held many jobs over the years, one being a grain buyer for the Sask Wheat Pool but eventually ended up on the farm fulltime. These last few years he lived in the farmyard but had sold the land to cousins, the Lowes, and the Smids and helped with seeding and harvesting. He also had a second farmyard with land near Dundurn, Saskatchewan where he spent quite a bit of time in the summer as he kept Will Lowe’s cattle there.
Wayne is survived by his brothers Glenn (Verna) and Kenny, his sister Cheryl (Les) Leuschen, nephews, Melvin Sivertson, Ryan and Chad Bird, nieces Kathy Braaten, Stacey Sivertson, Tanya (Dave) Barsaloux, and Jenn (James) Larson. He has 3 surviving aunts, Joyce Swanson, Peggy Bird and Edna Swanson, numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews.
Wayne is predeceased by his parents Cliff and Signe Bird, a baby brother in infancy, sister Marlene and niece April plus aunts and uncles from both sides.
Thank you to the staff at RUH ICU for the excellent care they gave Wayne during his time there.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Wayne in Kyle to be announced at a later date.
