Stephen "Steve" Douglas Rice

It is with great sadness that the family of Stephen (Steve) Rice announce his sudden passing on Thursday January 19th, 2023 at age 65. Steve was born September 17th, 1957 to Ronald Rice and Joanne Traubridge in Oshawa, Ontario.

Steve is remembered by his wife, Catherine (Cathy) Rice (Anderson), children Shannon (Graeme), Amy (Jonathan), Connor, Brian (Casey), Laura (Matthew), Karen (Christofer), and Paul. He was a loving grandpa to his fourteen grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents.

Steve had an adventurous childhood with many escapades with his sisters and cousins. He has told stories of sliding out windows on mattresses and climbing trees, fences, and houses. He will be missed by his four sisters, Wendy, Suzanne, Tammy, and Sherry, whom he frequently used as his test subjects for his adventures.

Steve left home when he was 18 to go on a cross-country adventure and ended up in Tofino, British Columbia where he found a relationship with God. He started his faith journey in the People of Praise Christian community and moved to Saskatoon where the community relocated in 1981. Steve and Cathy met in Saskatoon and were wed in July 1986 and lived out their faith in the Catholic Church and the People of Praise Christian community. Together they raised 7 children. Steve worked as an IT Analyst for the Saskatoon Health Region for 24 years and later took on other career paths such as a realtor, transporting vehicles, and most recently, driving a school bus.

Steve’s love of motorcycles started at an early age and continued until his passing. Sunday afternoon drives in the country was his way of escaping the stress of everyday life. He was restoring an old motorcycle at the time of his passing.

Steve’s love for life and adventure will continue to thrive in the hearts of the many he has impacted. Those who loved him will continue to honour his memory by living life to the fullest and being faithful in everything they do. Vigil of Prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday January 29, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10: 30 a.m. on Monday January 30, 2023. Both services will be held at St. Philip Neri Parish (1902 Munroe Avenue South Saskatoon).
