Stephen Craven Holgate

The Holgate family immigrated to Canada arriving in Canadian waters on Stephen's 5th Birthday. They made their new home in Regina.

Stephen graduated from the University of Regina and after a period in the banking industry, he set up his own Accounting practice.

Stephen married his High School sweetheart Deb in 1973. Sadly Debbie passed away in 2011. Stephen soldiered on alone...his love of sailing and his Keeshond dogs helped ease his loss.

Stephen met Barbara Martin in July 2017 and their love story began. They embraced each other's lives, accepting and embracing each other's families. Stephen particularly enjoyed spending time with his Great-Niece Ivy and Great-Nephew Theo, along with Barb's grandchildren Abigail, Kate, and Nicholas who lovingly referred to him as their Grandpa Stephen. Stephen and Barbara were married Sept. 6, 2020. Shortly thereafter they packed up, moved their household and boat to beautiful Ladysmith, BC, where they truly lived out their dream. They made wonderful friendships and set sail on many ocean adventures on-board their sailboat. This summer they were on-board together as often as possible. Life was wonderful!

The entire Holgate family enjoyed a grand reunion in August 2023 in Stephen and Barbara's home in Ladysmith. Sadly four days later Stephen suddenly became ill and after a good fight he passed away in Barbara's arms with his beloved Nephew John by his side.

Stephen's ashes will be committed to the Sea September 19 in Ladysmith, BC on-board his own boat piloted by Capt. Al Edwards. Fair winds and following Seas Stephen.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife Barbara Martin, brother Edward (Audrey), nephew John (Genevieve), great-niece Ivy and great-nephew Theo. He is also remembered by Barbara's daughters Sarah (Brad), Jillian (Wayne) and her grandchildren Abigail, Kate and Nicholas as well as numerous friends. A Celebration of Stephen's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Acadia Funeral Chapel (915 Acadia Drive). Arrangements entrusted to Aime Laventure.
