Stan was born on the family homestead near Sedley, Saskatchewan on April 12, 1933 to Florian and Katherine Wormsbecker. He took his elementary education at Blumenfeld School near Sedley, and his high school and university education at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, Saskatchewan. It is here that he experienced profound faith formation under the guidance of Father Athol Murray. He was a proud Notre Dame Hound.
He was educated in accounting, and he did municipal auditing in southern Saskatchewan. Being an entrepreneur at heart, and wanting to work with his hands, in 1966 he moved to Saskatoon, where he owned and operated residential and commercial construction companies. He was well known for his work ethic in the construction business for 50 years.
Stan's Catholic faith was very important to him. He was a long time member of Holy Spirit Parish. He never missed Sunday Mass, even when away from home. He participated in the Lay Formation Program with Kelly, which enhanced his faith life further. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. O'Leary Council #5104. He was Grand Knight from 2009-2012, and a board member of Fr. O'Leary Columbian Society and the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation. He was also a member of the Yellowhead Cosmopolitan Club.
Stan had a passion for baseball since childhood. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, and attending baseball games at Rogers Centre was a highlight. He enjoyed fishing, especially the fly-in fishing camps, shore lunch, hunting, camping and playing cards, especially Schmear. He also enjoyed winter holidays in Hawaii.
Stan and his wife Kelly volunteered with CESO – Canadian Executive Services Organization. This is where Stan shared his accounting and construction experience with individuals working in the private sector in third world countries such as Guatemala, Guyana, The Philippines, Costa Rica and Trinidad.
Stan is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Kelly, his children, Clinton (Leslie), Connie, Leonard (Lois), ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Stan was predeceased by parents Florian and Katherine Wormsbecker, his son Lyle, his brother Jacob, Jacob's wife Cecilia and their son George.
