It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our dear Sage on June 7, 2021. Born in The Pas, MB on April 26, 1973, she was the daughter of Carole Knowles and Gerald Mydan and twin sister of Shawn Mydan. She was the proud and loving mother of Austin, Rhyanne, Brooklynn, Dakota, Kaylee, and Ryker.
Known for her shy yet boisterous personality, Sage fell in love with dance as a young woman, competing nationally and internationally winning several championships and awards. It was in her pursuit of dance that she met Blair Butler. While she and Blair were dating, Sage achieved her Social Work Degree and in August of 1996, she accepted a job in Fort St. James with Child Protection Services. This did not stop Blair from pursuing his love. They continued to maintain a long distance relationship and later married in 1999. Their professional lives also became intertwined, with both of them eventually accepting employment with Correctional Service of Canada. Sage truly loved the work she did throughout her years at CSC, excelling in her responsibilities associated with legal file coordination and liaison activities with the Department of Justice.
Although a fulfilling career was satisfying, Sage and Blair’s ultimate desire was to start a family, eventually being blessed with six children beginning with Austin and soon after quintuplets. As a mother of six children, Sage quickly honed her organizational and delegation skills. Her motherly instinct fostered her ability to identify the unique attributes in each one of her children, supporting their interest and passions. She was extremely proud of her children, taking every opportunity to acknowledge and share their accomplishments. While Sage and Blair were no longer married, they continued to maintain a loving and supportive relationship, supporting each other and ensuring the children were their first priority.
Despite her breast cancer diagnosis in 2017, Sage chose to live life to the fullest. Although her struggles were real, so was her resilience. Sage was a fighter, a warrior, and a survivor. Although small in stature, energy was not something Sage was short on. Not only was she a full-time fundraiser for the various activities her children were involved in, she also supported her dance and cancer survivor communities via raffles, Go Fund Me sponsorships, and auctions.
As a championship dancer herself in Country, Swing, and Latin dance, she further took her love of dance to spearhead several dance initiatives in Saskatoon, all the while continuing as an active instructor to adults and children alike. The dance community was a huge part of her personality, having a positive impact to all she touched. It was in the dance community that Sage met her current love, Christian Zepeda Tellez and became a loving mother figure to his three girls, Ana Thaily, Samsara Belen, and Marabel.
Along with dance Sage loved to have fun, spending time with friends riding motorcycles & snowmobiles, and she was larger than life at the time of her passing. She will be remembered for her warm and generous spirit, positive energy, confidence, boisterous laugh, devoted and loving mother and beautiful soul that she was.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, a fundraiser has been organized for her six children on a Go Fund Me page – “Sage’s Memorial Fund for her Family”
