Rosemary passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital on Saturday December 11. She was born in Saskatoon and spent her early years on her parents' farm near Grandora, SK. She re-located to Saskatoon to complete her education and resided there until her death. She was predeceased by her son, Don, her parents, Joe and Laetitia Specken, and brothers Harold, Ray, Art and John. Rosemary is survived by her husband, Joe, her best friend and beloved spouse for more than 70 years; their children, Tom (Lorna), Gilbert, Joanne VanBuskirk, Greg (Shannon), Sharon (Roger) Spetz, Colleen (Bill) Ruddy, John and Julie; fourteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and her brother, Gerry. While living on her parents' farm, she attended Krumpelman School. She was also a student at St. Joseph School and is a graduate of the Convent of Sion, both of which were located in Saskatoon. She went on to the Saskatoon Normal School and the University of Saskatchewan to qualify for a teaching certificate. She taught Grades one to eight at Arlee in 1949-50 and Grades one to four at Asquith in 1950-51. Following her marriage, she taught for a short time at St. Joseph School. Rosemary devoted her life to homemaking, her husband and her children. While her children were growing up, she worked in Home and School, the Catholic Women's League and various other auxiliaries serving both church and school. Later, she was active with her husband in the pro-life movement and supported such organizations as REAL Women of Canada and Human Life International. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday December 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church (535 8th Street East Saskatoon) with Fr. Hoang Nguyen as Celebrant.
