July 4, 1949 – December 31, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard “Rick” Stephen Fahl. Rick passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 31, 2018 at the age of 69 after a short, hard-fought battle with brain cancer. Rick is survived by his loving wife Judy of 45 years, his treasured daughters Jennifer (Shawn; beloved granddaughters Emmersyn and Ardynn) Ritchie, and Heather Fahl. Rick was born in Rosetown, SK on July 4, 1949 where he spent most of his childhood until the age of 15, when he moved to Milden to live with his sister Mary and brother-in-law Craig Jensen. In Milden, he met the love of his life Judy Isley. After high school, Rick moved to Moose Jaw and began working with CP Rail and traveled to most of the southern Saskatchewan communities where he worked in numerous positions. Rick and Judy were married in 1973 and moved to Calgary, where Rick began working for United Dominion Investments. After 5 years in Calgary, he accepted a transfer to Saskatoon and became branch manager. When United Dominion closed in 1982, he began his 30-year career with the Federal Government. Rick was very proud of his career and made many lifelong friends. He was very involved with the Wildwood Community Association where he coached his daughters' ball teams and made many friends in the neighbourhood. Rick was very involved with the Holy Spirit Parish, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus #8905 3rd Degree and the 4th Degree D’Arcy McGee Assembly. In retirement, you would find him often puttering in the garage, meticulously looking after their yard, helping others with their yards, and travelling year-round with Judy. Rick's pride and joy were his granddaughters, always up for fun, treats, and a little trouble. Rick was loved by everyone he met. There was nothing that he couldn't fix, and no one that he wouldn't help. He was a very generous man. Rick is also survived by his sisters Janette Sapsford, Rita Ehr, brother-in-law Craig Jensen, sister-in-law Odile Fahl, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Agnes Fahl, brothers Harold Fahl, Ed (Sheila) Fahl, sisters Johanna (Emil) Marchildon, Norma (Ed) Castonquay, Mary Jensen, brothers-in-law Delbert Ehr and Bill Sapsford. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Holy Spirit Parish (114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon, SK). A Private Family Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Dr. D. Le, Dr. Naglaa El-Sayed, and all the nurses, care aids, and staff at RUH 6100 Oncology, as well as Palliative Care at St. Paul's Hospital, and our family and friends for their care, love, and support over the past 7 months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Paul’s Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care or the Saskatoon Cancer Centre. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
